Gucci Girl is a song by the German singer Katja Krasavice from 2019. The first single of her debut album Bo $$ Bitch was written by the artist herself and produced by The Ironix .

background

At Gucci Girl is Katja Krasavices first release after signing their record deal with music label Warner Music Group . Before that, she had already achieved top ten successes at PMR Music with the three singles Doggy , Dicke Lips and Sex Tape in Germany and Austria , or with the second title in the Austrian charts, where her last work was eleven months ago. Gucci Girl is also the first song on which Krasavice appears as a songwriter .

Music and lyrics

Gucci Girl is a pop song with clear touches of the Afrotrap and contemporary R&B genres. A light, simple mallet melody and dominant snares and hi-hats and bass drums underpin Krasavice's voice; this is alienated throughout with the Autotune effect . The melody as well as the rhyme scheme of the chorus are based on those of the international chart topper Barbie Girl of the Danish band Aqua from 1997; the verses, however, have no relation to the world hit. In terms of content, the song revolves around the singer's success and the luxury that the musician can afford. A total of three times there is an allusion to the successful collaboration album Palmen aus Plastik by the musicians Bonez MC and RAF Camora , in which the artist refers to her breast implants , which are also mentioned in other places. The artist also notes that, despite her popularity, she earns a lot of hatred , but also emphasizes that they would stalk the people concerned because of their fame .

Music video

The music video for Gucci Girl is characterized by an intentionally artificial look. It shows Katja Krasavice in and in front of a mostly pink , life-size doll's house with an idyllic front garden . Several accessories from the Gucci fashion label can be seen in and around it ; its logo is also on the house wall itself. In one room there is a poster that indicates the release date of the album Bo $$ Bitch - the cover of which can also be seen on several banknotes that are scattered around the house in bundles and pink bars . In allusion to the puppet theme of the clip , the musician dances in a ticked off and robot-like manner in some shots ; in others it moves lasciviously. She always wears revealing clothes. In another recurring scenes she pulls up an animated background, which in rich colors green trees , a blue sky , a yellow drawn sun and colorful Lollipops shows an also pink-colored car with imprint of the website FunDorado . At first she is accompanied by a woman who is wearing a white balaclava ; during the course of the video she is joined by another woman who takes over the helm while the artist sits on the back of the seat. There is now another car to the left and right of her; this is painted white and covered with the Gucci emblem. In other moments you can also see how apparently living Barbie dolls of the interpreter are on several shelves , the packaging of which shows the word "Bitch". Towards the end of the video, Krasavice is sitting in an empty, monochrome, pale pink room surrounded by women who are wearing a full-body suit in a doll look and each holding a pose.

criticism

Gucci Girl received average reviews. It was felt that the song sounded a lot less offensive than Krasavice's earlier works, which could disappoint the audience's expectations. It was also noted that the melody, which is based on a slowed down version of the title Barbie Girl , was initially irritating. Overall, the song was rated as surprisingly harmless. In addition, the associated music video was assumed to have striking similarities with that of the number one hit Gib him by rapper Shirin David .

success

In German-speaking countries, Gucci Girl was a moderate commercial success, which managed to climb to number 21 on the charts in Germany and Austria . In Switzerland , sales were only 80th. Overall, the song could not build on the success of Krasavice's first three titles.
