Tarred roads

Guglielminetti worked as a doctor in Java and Borneo . He got to know the sealing of buildings with tar in India . From this he developed a precursor of today's method asphalting of roads . As a doctor in Monaco on March 13, 1902, Guglielminetti had 40 meters of road coated with hot tar to combat dust . This procedure was then also used in many other countries, which Guglielminetti nicknamed Dr. Goudron (French for 'tar') brought in.

Breathing apparatus

He is also considered to be the inventor of the breathing apparatus for mountaineers , fire fighters , pilots and divers .

On March 10, 1906, the Courrières mine disaster occurred in the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France . 1,099 miners died (to date the largest mining disaster in Europe). There was no breathing apparatus in the pit. A rescue team of 25 volunteers - German mine fighters from the Shamrock (Herne) and Rheinelbe (Gelsenkirchen) collieries traveled to Courrières. Thanks to their devices, they were able to penetrate the gas plumes; they hid numerous dead there. The disaster and the rescue operation attracted worldwide attention at that time; Photos like the one on the right appeared in newspapers. They demonstrated the usefulness of breathing masks in mining. The breathing masks were known in France as Appareil Guglielminetti-Drager (meaning Johann Heinrich Dräger , the founder of the Drägerwerke ).
