Guido Richard Wagener

Guido Richard Wagener (born February 12, 1822 in Berlin , † February 10, 1896 in Marburg ) was a German anatomist , helminthologist and music collector.

Life

Wagener studied medicine in Berlin. He was initially an assistant to Ernst Wilhelm von Brücke and Johannes Peter Müller . In 1848 he received his doctorate . From 1857 he worked as an assistant at the Anatomical Museum in Berlin. After his habilitation in 1861 he worked as a private lecturer .

From 1867 to 1887 he was professor of anatomy at the University of Marburg , later also prorector.

Act

With his friend and colleague Nathanael Lieberkühn (1821–1887) and his students Hans Strahl (1857–1920) and Emil Gasser (1847–1919), Guido Richard Wagener founded the “Marburg Anatomy Family” in 1867. The scientists became acquainted with the research results of embryology , in particular a histological collection of sections of human and animal embryos at the University of Marburg that still exists today in parts. In 1853 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

The species Bothriocephalus centrolophipompili was discovered by him in 1854 and named by Monticelli in 1890 with Echinophallus wageneri , also: Bothriocephalus wagener .

Wagener also became known for his extensive music collection with around 9000 pieces, in particular by Johann Sebastian Bach , Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach , Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach as well as works by Franz Benda , Johann Gottlieb Graun , Carl Heinrich Graun and Johann Joachim Quantz . The collection, mainly chamber music from the 16th to 18th centuries, also included over 500 manuscripts. The collection was sold in 1902 to Alfred Wotquenne , librarian at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.
