The Gunnewiesen nature reserve is located in the area of the towns of Delbrück and Salzkotten along the Gunne in the Paderborn district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends north of the core town of Salzkotten and northeast of Thüle . The K 3 district road runs along the eastern edge of the area, the Lippe flows to the northwest and the L 815 state road runs .

The approximately 238 hectare area was placed under nature protection in 1989 under the key number PB-004 .

Protection goal

In addition to the usual goals such as scientific importance, landscape protection, rarity and uniqueness, mainly typical waters, wetlands, grassland and woody plants of the lip lowlands, more precisely sub-unit 540.20 Upper Lippe Valley and their natural biodiversity are mentioned. Characteristic components named are "large areas of moist and poor grassland, moist tall herbaceous vegetation, flowing water typical of the natural area and sometimes temporary shallow water with sedge beds and dwarf rush meadows on groundwater-influenced, boggy or pod-isolated locations".

Near-natural sections of the Gunne have been preserved. Some of the blanks and stagnant, near-natural waters, however, have been newly created. Natural floodplains, swamps and wetlands also provide a home for the respective typical animal and plant species. As important components u. a. Alder-ash and softwood floodplain forests. Examples of the fauna are curlew , meadow pipit , Kingfisher , Marsh Harrier , Eurasian Hobby , Little Owl and lesser spotted woodpecker , for the Flora Avens , marsh cranesbill and Great pennyroyal .

The components and their diversity should be preserved and, in particular, the waters should be optimized. Special attention is also paid to the preservation as a "breeding area of endangered meadow breeders".
