Gunther Olaf Hofmann (born May 22, 1957 in Landshut , Bavaria ) is a German surgeon, physicist and university professor.

Life

Hofmann completed his studies in medicine and physics in 1982 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with a state examination and doctorate. med. from. At the Technical University of Munich he obtained a diploma in physics in 1984 and in 1987 he obtained his doctorate in physics on the biomechanics of artificial knee joints (Dr. rer. Nat.). From 1984 to 1992 Hofmann worked as a research assistant at the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Großhadern Clinic and as a freelancer at the laboratory for biomechanics and experimental orthopedics at the State Orthopedic Clinic in Munich. With his habilitation in surgery (biodegradable osteosynthesis implants) in 1992, he was awarded the license to teach (venia legendi) in surgery in accordance with the University Teachers Act (Bavaria).

This was followed by a research stay at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a teaching hospital of the Medical Faculty of Harvard University, and in the same year 1992 he took up a position as senior physician at the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. As a surgeon and physicist, he coordinated an interdisciplinary group of employees from various institutes at the Ludwig Maximilians University and the University of Applied Sciences for Wood and Plastics Technology in Rosenheim. In 1995 he switched to the professional association accident clinic in Murnau .

Since 2004 Gunther O. Hofmann has been medical director of the professional association clinics Bergmannstrost Halle (Saale) and director of the clinic for trauma, hand and reconstructive surgery at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena .
