Gustav v. Loeper

Gustav von Loeper (born September 27, 1822 in Stramehl , Province of Pomerania , † December 13, 1891 in Charlottenburg near Berlin) was a German lawyer. With Woldemar von Biedermann he was one of the early and great Goethe researchers. For authoritative philologists such as Wilhelm Scherer and Erich Schmidt , he embodied the desired unification of political nation and cultural nation .

origin

His parents were Johann Ludwig von Loeper (* November 8, 1786; † January 4, 1850) and his wife Ernestine Johanna Caroline von der Osten (* December 15, 1789; June 27, 1868). The parliamentarian Johann Georg von Loeper (1819–1900) was his brother.

Life

Loeper studied law and camera science at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1843 he was reciprocated in the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg . After the exams he was a judge for a few years . As an expert on state and private princely law, he was appointed to the department of the minister of the royal house (Prussia) in 1854 . For over 32 years he was responsible for all areas of the crown administration. In particular, he devoted himself to the practice of state and private princely law as well as the master list of the Hohenzollern . He led all relevant lawsuits , none of which he lost. In 1863 he succeeded in asserting the claims of the Crown Prussia to the allodial estate of the now extinct Anhalt-Bernburgers . He won the great rulers in Schwedt and Oels for the crown property . Since 1865 lecturer at the Ministerialrat, from 1876 he was also director of the Königl. Go House Archives. He retired in October 1886. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , to whom he had devoted all leisure hours for 40 years, moved into the center of his life. He immersed himself in the newly opened Goethe Archive . His comment on Faust. A tragedy. and to Faust. The second part of the tragedy stressed the unity of both parts and turned against allegorical interpretations. His explanations of poetry and truth and maxims and reflections were famous . Since the founding of the Goethe Society (1885) he has always sat on its board and was elected to the editorial board of the historical-critical Sophien-Ausgabe .

He married Caroline Leonore Charlotte Wegner (* July 19, 1829, † April 19, 1907). The couple had several children:

  • Helene Else (born August 8, 1866), canon
