Gustav von der Osten (also: Gustav Heinrich vd Osten ; born April 19, 1866 in Misselwarden  ; died November 9, 1923 in Hanover ) was a German historian , teacher , high school director and local researcher .

Gustav von der Osten, who was born in the country of Wursten , attended the Domgymnasium Verden , which he left with the Abitur in 1885. He then studied history, German and ancient languages ​​at the universities of Jena , Berlin and Kiel University , where he received his doctorate in 1889. He then worked as an assistant teacher in various places, including from 1898 to 1900 in Otterndorf . During this period he wrote his main work History of the Land of Wursten , published in two volumes from 1900 to 1902 .

In 1906 Gustav von der Osten took over the position of director of today's Johann Heinrich Voß School in Otterndorf . On May 15, 1910, his son and later art historian Gert von der Osten was born to him and his wife Marie Böschen, daughter of a pastor in Mittelwarden, in Otterndorf .

During the First World War , von der Osten assumed the post of director of the Kaiserin-Auguste-Victoria-Gymnasium in Linden near Hanover in 1915 .

Gustav von der Osten was a leading member of the Heimatbund der Männer vom Morgenstern founded by Hermann Allmers in 1881 . From 1921 he was chairman of the Lower Saxony Heimatbund .

Posthumously , a memorial stone was set up in the Ricklingen city cemetery in honor of the home guardian .
