Gustava Mösler

Gustava Mösler (born December 13, 1920 on Heligoland ; † June 14, 2021 ) was a German journalist and the first female radio director of the BR and the entire ARD .

Live and act

Gustava Mösler studied German and theater studies in Münster , Vienna and Munich . In 1945 she did her doctorate in German and theater studies and then went on to study economics . She began her professional career in 1950 as a freelancer in the culture department of Bayerischer Rundfunk, where she was given a permanent position as an editor in 1953. In 1955 and 1957 she gave birth to her sons.

In the following years she worked as an editor in various editorial offices. From 1961 to 1963 she took over the provisional management of the special program. From 1963 to 1971 she was an editor in the night studio and worked in the culture and science editorial offices of Bavarian television . In 1971 Gustava Mösler built up the science department and headed it until 1980. During this time, she met many well-known personalities as part of her work. She was in regular correspondence with the writer Ingeborg Bachmann and with Erika Mann . In 1973 she interviewed the Nobel Prize winner Konrad Lorenz and the historian and writer Golo Mann, among others . In the 1980s she spoke to Thomas Gottschalk and Günther Jauch .

From 1980 to 1982 she was the head of the main culture department. In 1982 the broadcasting councilor Gustava Mösler elected radio director of Bayerischer Rundfunk, a position she was the first woman to hold at the time. She held the office until her retirement in 1985. A high point of her tenure was the reform of Bayern 3 and the expansion of the Bayern 4 Klassik (now BR-Klassik ) into a full program.

Gustava Mösler died on June 14, 2021 at the age of 100.

1985: Winner of the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in Silver No. 520

In June 1987 she received the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Mösler remained connected to Bayerischer Rundfunk even after her retirement, which is also reflected in the BR celebrations on her ninetieth birthday and in the BR video on her hundredth birthday.
