Guy Harpigny (born April 17, 1948 in Luttre ) is a Belgian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Tournai .

Life

Guy Harpigny studied philosophy , Catholic theology and Islamic studies in Paris , Tournai , Lille and Cairo . He was ordained a priest in 1973 . In the same year he began his service as a professor of dogmatics and Islamic studies in Charleroi , Tournai and Lille; later he was dean of Mons .

Pope John Paul II appointed him 100th diocesan bishop of Tournai on May 22, 2003. On September 7th, 2003 he received the episcopal ordination from the Archbishop of Mechlin-Brussels , Godfried Cardinal Daneels ; Co- consecrators were the bishops Paul Schruers von Hasselt and André-Joseph Léonard von Namur . His motto is Consacre-les dans la vérité .

In 2004 he was co-consecrator at the episcopal ordination of Pierre Warin , auxiliary bishop in Namur. On the night of May 3rd and 4th, 2007, he was injured in a robbery in his apartment of the Episcopal Ordinariate.

In 2007 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed to the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue . Since 2008 he has been Grand Officer (Commander) of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
