Gyenesdiás [ ˈɟɛnɛʃdiaːʃ ] is a municipality on the northern western shore of Lake Balaton in Hungary . It is the immediate eastern neighbor of Keszthely . The place name was created in 1840 by merging the places Gyenes (in the west) and Diás (in the east).

location

The place is bordered to the north by the hills of the Keszthely Mountains. There are many hiking trails. To the west and east, cycle paths lead to various destinations: around Lake Balaton, to the Kis-Balaton nature reserve or to Bad Hévíz .

tourism

The place has increasingly developed into a holiday resort on Lake Balaton and, due to its proximity to Keszthely, Zalakaros and the spa town of Bad Hévíz, is also interesting for permanent and spa guests. He therefore lives to a large extent from tourism .

Two beaches are operated, the larger of which (in Diás, east side) offers many sports and entertainment options (animation, beach radio, garden-sized board games). The smaller Lidostrand in Gyenes is quieter and more suitable for families. It is also the gateway to the climbing garden in the forest (right on the bank). There is also a sailing port (yacht club) and two fishing clubs in Diás.

Partner communities

The partner communities of Gyenesdiás have been the Styrian community Gaal and Csíkszenttamás Transylvania / Romania for several years .
