School history

The Syke grammar school was founded in 1961 as a "grammar school under construction" in what was then the county of Hoya . Until then, there was no grammar school in the district at that time. Children from Syke, Bassum , Twistringen , Bruchhausen-Vilsen , Stuhr and Weyhe who wanted to attend a grammar school could only do so in the immediate vicinity in Bremen , Diepholz , Vechta , Wildeshausen , Verden , Nienburg / Weser or in Delmenhorst . It started in Syke in 1961 with grades 5 and 7. Since 1967 the Syker grammar school has been a multi-level full grammar school.

School board

Education authorities of the then so-called "county school" was to 1976 - to the district reform - the county county Hoya. Since then it has been the district of Diepholz. The “Specialist Service Schools, Culture and Sport” is responsible for school matters.

School building

Numerous extensions, conversions and modernizations have been carried out by the school authorities over the past five decades, so that the Syke high school is now presented in a modern and well-maintained structure that also meets the requirements of energy saving.

Development of the school

Since 1961 the number of pupils and teachers has increased continuously. There was a new "boost" in 2004 after the abolition of the orientation stage in Lower Saxony. Since then, fifth and sixth graders have been taught at the grammar school again. With the establishment of new grammar schools or grammar school branches in neighboring towns (especially in Twistringen and Bruchhausen-Vilsen) this increase has probably come to a standstill.
