history

Six Augustinian canons founded a church here in 1060 , but 19 years later they were replaced by Benedictine monks from Saint-Évroult Abbey . The place that was developing around the monastery received municipal rights in 1203 through Duke Johann Ohneland . After the Battle of Azincourt (1415), one of the most important events of the Hundred Years War , the place was occupied by the English; the Burgundians set it on fire in 1472. King Henry IV stayed in the city several times. During the French Revolution , Auffay was the canton capital for a number of years (1790–1801) . On the night of June 10th to 11th, 1940, the place was badly hit by German fire bombs ; later there was a launch pad for V1 rockets nearby .

The municipality of Auffay merged with Cressy and Sévis to form the Commune nouvelle Val-de-Scie on January 1, 2019 . Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée.
