The Hünenburg in Dransfeld (actually Huonenburg ) was an early medieval Spur castle , which is about 3200 meters north of the present-day Dransfeld , in the field of patch Adelebsen in southern Lower Saxony in Göttingen district was.
location
The castle complex southeast of the hamlet Adelebsener Güntersen and southwest of the district Barterode lay on a spur of the expiring southwest Ossenbergs to nearly 440 meters above the valley of the Auschnippe in nature reserve Ossenberg - Fehr Busch . Around 1978 the basalt dikes on the castle grounds were examined and geologically and petrographically described.
description
The castle complex was about 120 × 120 m in size. The surrounding wall that is visible today has a mortar shell wall made of quarry stone, which was found in excavations in 1955, as its core. The castle is protected in the north, west and south by steep slopes, in the east the wall was preceded by a moat that runs south into the valley. Ceramic shards from the 9th to 11th centuries were found in and near the castle. Century found. Approximately in the middle of the system there is a depression that was interpreted as the remains of a pit house . A bastion was found on the southeast corner , which was probably added later. The only gate of the castle was excavated on the south side near the southeast corner, there the walls lead to a kind of pincer gate inside. Joachim Jünemann published partly deviating interpretations and theses on other installations after radiesthetic examinations. The castle complex, also described as the Carolingian - Ottonian castle wall , is classified as a hill fort and a refuge . Smaller excavation finds, which are assigned to ceramic vessels, for example, are owned by the district archeology and can be viewed at any time.
history
A written mention of the Hünenburg is received in a document with which on June 15, 1348, among other things, annual income from land was sold, including 15 Pfennig from eyner breyden, de bi der Hu (o) neborch lid . The text is printed in the document book of the Hilwartshausen monastery ; Whether the castle was still in use at this point in time or - more likely - had already been destroyed, is not clear from the text. The function of the Hünenburg has not been conclusively clarified, but it is located in an area that was populated at an early stage near an old route. Archaeological test excavations were carried out by Fritz Bertram Jünemann in 1955/56 and Hans-Günter Peters in 1965/66.
In 2015, extensive forestry work was carried out in the area of the Hünenburg, an area of the wall at the new information point was cleared of trees and the former access for hikers on the north side of the facility and the circular path on the wall were removed. Instead, an observation platform with an information board was set up on the east side outside the trench.
