Hüttenhohl is the name of a mountain pass in the Haardt in Rhineland-Palatinate on the border of the districts of Maikammer and Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . There branches at 476.9 m above sea level. NHN take Kalmithöhenstrasse ( Landesstrasse 515) from Totenkopfstrasse (L 514); Next to the branch there is a sign on a tree with the inscription "479 mtr" as an indication of the height. The term pass does not stand for the roads that meet there, because their courses continue to rise when viewed from the Sankt Martiner Tal towards Totenkopf and Kalmit , but to the saddle between the Sankt Martiner Tal and the Finstertal.
Geographical location
The Hüttenhohl is located in the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve and in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park . It forms the saddle between the Kalmit ( 672.6 m ) in the east, its pre-summit Hüttenberg ( 620.1 m ) in the southeast and the Rotsohlberg ( 607.1 m ) in the west and the Schafkopf ( 616.8 m ) in the southwest. The pass enables the transition from Sankt Martiner Tal in the south to Finstertal in the north.
Streets
From Sankt Martiner Tal, the Totenkopfstraße ( L 514) leads from Sankt Martin upwards of 3.5 km to Hüttenhohl. From there, the road continues upwards over the northern highlands of the Rotsohlberg and over the Totenkopf pass there ( 513.7 m ) to Breitenstein, 8.5 km away . The Kalmithöhenstrasse (L 515) branching off at Hüttenhohl also leads (further) uphill from there. There is a parking lot for hikers in the forest at the top of the pass .
Flowing waters
The Finstertal, north of the Hüttenhohl, flows into the Kaltenbrunner Tal . To the south of the Hüttenhohl various springs form the Hüttenbach, which joins the Woiselbach to the Altbach after a few kilometers. The Altbach flows into the Speyerbach about 5 km before Speyer as a left tributary of the Rhine . The springs and streams north of the top of the pass drain through the Finstertal and Kaltenbrunner Tal in the Palatinate Forest near Neustadt into the Speyerbach.
history
At the Hüttenhohl Roman roads and old roads already crossed , such as the road from Speyer to Metz , which in the Palatinate Forest continued from Sankt Martin over the Totenkopf to Breitenstein and Esthal or over the Lolosruhe to Johanniskreuz . There are only sparse remains of the Roman roads in the form of cobblestones, ruts and sunken paths. In addition, there are remains of the foundation walls of a hut, which are referred to on old maps as the "dilapidated Roman guardroom" or "guard hut", although this is not certain. At the top of the pass, the Ritterstein 239 with the inscription "Huettenhohl - Ruine alte Huette" indicates.
Hiking and refuges
The Hüttenhohl is a central junction ( path spider ) in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park , which can be reached on hiking trails over the Sankt Martiner Tal from the south or from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse over the Kaltenbrunner Tal and Finstertal. Hiking trails lead over the Hüttenberg ( 620.1 m ) to the Kalmit ( 672.6 m ), over the Hahnenschritt ( 557.9 m ) to the Hohen Loog ( 618.7 m ), to the Totenkopf ( 513.7 m ), to the Rotsohlberg ( 607.1 m ), to the Schafkopf ( 616.8 m ) and past the unmanaged Sankt Martiner hut to the Hochberg ( 635.3 m ). The nearby managed refuge huts of the Palatinate Forest Association are the Totenkopfhütte , the Kalmithaus and the Haus an den Fichten .
