HD 162826 (HR 6669) , is a star about 110 light-years from the Sun and located in the constellation Hercules . It has many chemical and physical properties in common with the sun and is therefore also referred to as solar sibling ("sibling of the sun", see also solar twin ).

Characteristics

The star has around 15 percent more mass than our sun and can already be observed with binoculars above Wega . A team of astronomers led by Ivan Ramirez from the University of Texas at Austin suspects that HD 162286 originated from the same dust and gas cloud as our sun.

According to this, HD 162826 has practically the same composition as our sun in terms of its metallicity such as iron , sodium , aluminum , barium and vanadium . In addition, it moves in an orbit around the center of the Milky Way system relative to the sun, which suggests a common origin.

Prospects for life

HD 162826 is a single star and has been systematically observed in search of exoplanets for around 15 years . This means that a massive Jupiter-type planet at a greater distance from the star can be excluded. So far there is also no evidence of companions with lower mass.
