Haegue Yang
Haegue Yang (born December 12, 1971 in Seoul ) is a South Korean installation artist who lives in Germany.
life and work
Haegue Yang was born the daughter of the writer Misoon Kim and the journalist Hansoo Yang. In 1994 she graduated from the Fine Arts College of the Seoul National University in Seoul with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, in 1999 she was a master class student at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main with Georg Herold .
Haegue Yang uses industrial series products in her - sometimes space-filling - installations and works with systems of order that she detaches from their functional context. At dOCUMENTA (13) , which took place in Kassel in 2012 , she showed a typical work above the track system in the north wing of the Kulturbahnhof . A dozen electrically powered blinds raised, lowered, opened and closed in a ballet-like rhythm. “In doing so, she explores the question of which basic assumptions and behavioral expectations are manifested in them and thus passed on to the users. "
Haegue Yang lives and works in Berlin and Seoul.
