Hailie Sahar (born July 12, 1988 in Los Angeles ) is an American actress , singer , fashion designer and activist . She is best known for her lead role Lulu Abundance in the FX production Pose .

Life

Sahar claims to have grown up in a religious household in Los Angeles with five brothers. Her father works as a preacher for a local Baptist church . When she was a child, Sahar was a dancer for the Sparks , the Los Angeles women's basketball team . In her youth, Sahar became a member of Ballroom Culture , in which mostly non-white members of the LGBT community in houses compete against each other in artistic competitions. In her youth, Sahar also began gender reassignment measures . At the age of 18, Sahar was the community's youngest house founder to date . However, she later left the House of Rodale and instead joined the House of Allure .

Sahar, who is transgender , was crowned the winner of the Queen USA beauty pageant for trans women in 2015 , and the following year she sang in the duet Born This Way at the same event with the then reigning Miss USA Betty Cantrell . In 2015 she was also Miss LA Pride at the Gay Pride in Los Angeles. It was as a speaker at the 57th Presidential Advisory Council on HIV / AIDS in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center invited to the representative of the White House and the US Department of Health of the terms AIDS -Problematik be advised. She is also committed to the Women's Center in East Los Angeles against domestic violence .

Career

Sahar got her first film role as a cashier in the music dramedy Leave It on the Floor . In the following years she was seen in supporting roles in individual episodes of Mr. Robot and Transparent . In late 2017, she starred Ariela in the off-Broadway production Charm in New York City .

That same year, Sahar was cast in the lead role of Lulu Abundance on the FX television series Pose during a six-month casting . This is about the New York members of the ballroom culture of the 1980s and 1990s, who mainly struggled with homophobia and transphobia , racism and the HIV epidemic. Lulu is a member of the House of Abundance , but no longer wants to be in the shadow of the director Elektra , which is why she founded her own House of Ferocity with member Candy .

Since 2019, Sahar has played the supporting character Jazmin in the Freeform series Good Trouble .
