In September 1840 the construction of the (at that time) single-track railway line Karlsruhe - Bruchsal - Heidelberg began , on April 10, 1843 the railway was started. In 1846 the reception building of the Untergrombach train station was built. In 1847 the line was expanded with a second track and in 1854 the track width was changed from 1600 mm to today's standard track width of 1435 mm at great expense .
The people of Untergrombach were reluctant to accept the new route. From around 1875, with the industrialization, the use of the railroad to the new jobs in Karlsruhe and Bruchsal began. The railway line had a positive effect on Untergrombach.
In 1893 a train station restaurant was opened. In 1950 the Rhine Valley Railway was electrified . In 1993 the underpass to Büchenau was completed.
Between 1994 and 1996, light rail vehicles operated by the Karlsruhe Transport Association (KVV) operated between Karlsruhe and Bruchsal, initially as a preliminary operation. The S31 and S32 lines have been in regular service since 1996, and have been connected via the Kraichtalbahn to Menzingen (S32) and since 1998 via the Katzbachbahn to Odenheim (S31).
