history

Settlement of today's Untergrombach area goes back at least to the Neolithic Age (late 5th and 4th millennium BC): Traces of the Michelsberg culture were found on Michaelsberg in 1884 . The place was first mentioned in a document in 789. The first documentary mention of a chapel on the Michaelsberg comes from 1346, today's Michaelskapelle was built between 1742 and 1744. In 1470 the German peasant leader Joß Fritz was born in Untergrombach, who led the Bundschuh movement , which caused revolts against oppression and serfdom. The Joß-Fritz-Brunnen in the center of the village reminds of him. In 1843 the place was connected to the railway network with the Untergrombach stop on the Rhine Valley Railway. In 1907 the soccer club FC Germania Untergrombach was founded. Untergrombach developed from a farming village to a workers' community through to incorporation into Bruchsal on July 1, 1971. Since 1989 there has been a partnership with Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines in Alsace. In 2018 Untergrombach was the most populous district of Bruchsal.
