The first documentary mention of a chapel comes from 1346. In 1472 a new chapel was built, which had disintegrated again in 1584. The current Michaelskapelle was built in 1742–1744 under the Speyer prince-bishop Damian Hugo von Schönborn . Three altars, a baroque pulpit from the former Hambrück parish church , ceiling paintings and the figures of the fourteen helpers are remarkable and decorate the interior of the church.

Nature reserve

The nature reserve on the nearby Kaiserberg has an area of 7.89 hectares . The Karlsruhe Regional Council created the protected area under the number 2.035 by ordinance of December 4, 1979. As early as August 6, 1934, community-owned areas on the Kaiserberg were declared a nature reserve by resolution of the Untergrombach community council . The then competent Ministry of Education in Karlsruhe confirmed this decision in the same year and declared it to be legally effective.

Another nature reserve was created on April 2, 1996 under the name Michaelsberg und Habichtsbuckel , it has the reserve number 2200 and a total size of 49.6 hectares. This area consists of five sub-areas:

  • Expansion area to the existing Kaiserberg nature reserve west of the chapel on Michaelsberg and south and east of the existing nature reserve (around 6.6 hectares).
  • Areas of the Michaelsberg. They extend into the Talklinge in the transition area to the Eichelberg (around 30.6 ha).
  • The ravine at the noise fire. The western embankment of this access road to the Michael's Chapel (around 0.7 ha) is protected.
  • The outcrop at the Rummler. The quarry with the adjacent orchards is located on the southern slope of the Michaelsberg (around 2.6 ha).
  • The Gewann Weiertal and parts of the Gewann Habichtsbuckel. They are located south of the Grombach between Untergrombach and Obergrombach (around 10 ha).

The two nature reserves are extensively supplemented by a surrounding landscape protection area , which bears the name Michaelsberg-Eichelberg and is 388.01 hectares in size. It was formed by ordinance of the Karlsruhe District Office of January 29, 1975 with the protected area number 2.15.025.
