Hamilton John Agmondesham Cuffe, 5th Earl of Desart KP KCB PC (born August 30, 1848 - † November 4, 1934 ) was a British lawyer and politician who between 1894 and 1909 simultaneously held the functions of Treasury Solicitor , Queen's Proctor and Director of Public Prosecutions dressed. After his elevation to Baron Desart , of Desart in the County of Kilkenny, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom , he also became a member of the House of Lords in 1909 , of which he was a member until his death in 1934.

Life

Family background and professional career

Cuffe was the second eldest son of John Cuffe, 3rd Earl of Desart , who was one of the Irish Representative Peer Member in the House of Lords between 1846 and 1865 and briefly held the post of Under-Secretary of State for War in 1852 and the Colonies ), and his wife Elizabeth Lucy Campbell, whose father John Campbell, 1st Earl Cawdor was a member of the House of Commons between 1813 and 1823 and was later Lord Lieutenant of Carmarthenshire from 1852 to 1860 . Hamilton Cuffe himself first entered the Royal Navy after attending school , which he left as a midshipman . After the death of his brother William Ulick O'Connor Cuffe, who died without a male heir, Hamilton Cuffe inherited the titles of 5th Earl of Desart , 8th Baron Desart , 5th Viscount Castlecuffe, which were created in the Peerage of Ireland on September 15, 1898 as well as the 5th Viscount Desart . Hamiliton Cuffe married Margaret Joan Lascelles on July 19, 1876, daughter of Henry Thynne Lascelles, 4th Earl of Harewood and his wife Elizabeth Joanna de Burgh. From this marriage the two daughters Joan Elizabeth Mary Cuffe and Sybil Marjorie Cuffe were born. Since he died without male descendants, the title of Earl of Desart and all titles of nobility to which he was entitled expired with his death on November 4, 1934.
