Handiedan

Handiedan , bourgeois Hanneke Treffers (* 1981 in Breda ), is a Dutch illustrator , collage , graffiti and street art artist. She lives in Amsterdam .

Life

At the age of 17, Handiedan went to the Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St. Joost in the Netherlands and graduated in 2002 in photo design . In 2007 she started with mixed media collages. Since 2011 she has been working as a street artist in Europe and the USA.

In contrast to the minimalism typical of Dutch street artists , Handiedan's art is influenced by the ornamental and detailed Victorian style to the classic pinups of the 1940s. She uses motifs from playing cards, coins, old postage stamps, tattoos and the kinky area as set pieces . The protagonists of her pictures are often women wearing suspenders in the burlesque style of the 1950s. Skulls are another central motif. The images are always symmetrical and supplemented with long text passages, often from the field of geography or astrology.

Handiedan took part in Urban Nation 's 'One Wall' project in Berlin in 2014 and is part of Unit44's street art project 'The White Walls' in Newcastle upon Tyne . Her collage Bollywood Sugar is on display at the Halle Saint Pierre Museum in Paris . There she took part in the exhibition HEY! modern art & pop culture part.

Alongside Banksy , Shepard Fairey , Mr. Brainwash and Conor Harrington , Handiedan is one of the leading artists in the field of street art.
