Hannes Schernthaner

Hannes Schernthaner (born March 11, 1986 in Zell am See ) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). Since 2014 he is mayor in Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße and since June 2018 Member of the Salzburg Parliament .


After primary school in Fusch an der Großglocknerstrasse, Hannes Schernthaner attended secondary school in Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse and the Polytechnic School in Zell am See . He then completed an apprenticeship as an administrative assistant at the State of Salzburg . In parallel to working as a clerk in the finance group at the district administration for the Zell am See district , he passed the civil service advancement test at the Federal High School for Working People in Salzburg. From 2008 he was a criminal advisor in the Traffic and Penalties group and from 2010 a civil protection advisor and clerk for event law in the public safety group at the Zell am See district administration.

In 2010 he passed the university entrance qualification examination for law at the University of Salzburg . In 2013 he attended the Public Management course at the Salzburg Management and Business School (SMBS) at the University of Salzburg. Since 2014 he has been a member of the supervisory board of Großglockner Hochalpenstraßen AG and the Central Garbage Sewage Sludge Verwertungsanlagen Gesellschaft mbH (ZEMKA). Since 2015 he has been working as a clerk for event law, disaster control, electoral matters, collection law, community service matters in the administrative department of the Zell am See district authority.


From 2004 to 2009 Hannes Schernthaner was the youth representative of the community of Fusch an der Großglocknerstrasse , where he was the ÖVP managing director of the local party from 2009 to 2014. Since 2012 he has been deputy district party chairman of the ÖVP in Pinzgau , and since 2013 he has also been district chairman of the Austrian Workers' Union (ÖAAB) in Pinzgau.

From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the municipal council of Fusch an der Großglocknerstrasse, in the municipal council and mayoral elections in Salzburg in 2014 he was elected mayor with 83.8 percent of the vote. In this position he succeeded Leonhard Madreiter, who was mayor from 1991.

After the state elections in Salzburg in 2018 , he was sworn in as a member of the Salzburg state parliament on June 13, 2018 in the constitutive session of the 16th legislative period . Schernthaner took over the vacant state parliament mandate from Gertraud Salzmann , who took over the national council mandate from Stefan Schnöll , who in turn was regional councilor in the Salzburg state government Haslauer junior.
