history

The old Hanover house

A first hut ( Alte Hannoverhütte ) was built in 1888 on the ridge below the Elschesattel (also Etschlsattel) at an altitude of 2521  m .

The following hut was inaugurated on August 18, 1911 after three years of construction with a wide view of the Großglockner , the Dolomites and the Karwendel ( location ). The chemist, veterinarian and professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover , Johann Karl Moritz Arnold (1853–1929), in whose honor the mountain was renamed Arnoldhöhe, was the sponsor of the hut construction and long-time chairman of the Hanover section . A mausoleum with his ashes was built next to the hut.

Due to urgently needed renovations, it was decided, for reasons of economy, to build a new Hanover house about 500 m away. The old Hanover House was supposed to be dismantled and disposed of after the new one went into operation, but it burned down completely in the night of August 2, 2014 after a lightning strike.

The laying of the foundation stone for the replacement building, located a little lower at a height of 2565  m , to the south on the Etschlsattel, took place on September 7, 2012. The new hut started operations in December 2013 and was officially opened on August 16, 2014.
