Hans-Werner Hector
Hans-Werner Hector (born January 17, 1940 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German mathematician , entrepreneur and one of the founders of the software company SAP in Walldorf alongside Hasso Plattner , Claus Wellenreuther , Dietmar Hopp and Klaus Tschira .
Life
Hans-Werner Hector studied mathematics at the University of Saarland and then worked at IBM in Mannheim. Here he and the colleagues named above recognized the potential of standard business software . They set off in 1972 with the company "SAP System Analysis and Program Development " independently . As the company grew, Hector was responsible for developing the US business after the IPO.
In the mid-1990s he left the operational business. In 1996 he sold a large part of his SAP shares. The proceeds made him one of the richest people in Germany with an estimated fortune of 1.6 billion euros . The sale of the shares to the Eugenia Trust, managed by UBS International Trustees Ltd., Jersey, was highly controversial.
Hector then invested in start-ups in the software , biotechnology and healthcare sectors . In addition, he worked together with his wife Josephine Hector as a sponsor in the cultural sector and in medical research. On November 25, 2003, the University of Karlsruhe awarded Hans-Werner Hector an honorary doctorate for his services to the support of highly talented students in the context of the so-called Hector seminars he initiated.

Together with his wife Josefine, Hector had already supported the University of Karlsruhe beforehand. The couple are considered to be one of the most important donors in the state of Baden-Württemberg for culture and medicine . In connection with his foundation at the University of Karlsruhe, Hector criticized that education had no place in politics . However, a society cannot just rest on politics.
