Hans Glaser (architect)
Johann "Hans" Glaser (born October 25, 1873 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † July 10, 1950 there ) was an Austrian architect .
Life
Hans Glaser was the son of the handicraft painter Johann Glaser and Franziska Glaser, née Grundmann. After attending the community school , he switched to the state trade school in his hometown and finished his schooling in 1892 with the Matura . From 1893 to 1896 he studied architecture under Karl Hasenauer and Viktor Luntz at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . Their daughter Eleonore (1908-1993), married Fiedler, came from their marriage to Klementine Jäger (approx. 1874–1963).
The Architects Lexicon Vienna 1770–1945 of the Architekturzentrum Wien assigns Hans Glaser participation in a residential building completed in 1890 at Helblinggasse 11 in Vienna- Hernals . Since Hans Glaser was still a student at the time, an error in the year of construction and an architect of the same name cannot be ruled out. Hans Glaser should not be confused with the architect Hans Glas (1892–196?), Who was also based in Vienna .
In any case, it is certain that Glaser worked at the Dombauhütte at St. Stephen's Cathedral from 1895 to 1896 and that he worked in the architecture and construction studio for the exhibition industry, furniture and amusement buildings working group founded in 1913 with Karl Scheffel and Alfred Kraupa (until 1916) several residential and Community housing designed. In 1907 he became a member of the Wiener Bauhütte and in 1915 of the Central Association of Architects in Austria . From the further collaboration with Kraupa from 1916 on came predominantly unrealized competition designs , others together with Ludwig Tremmel or by him alone, some also together with Karl Scheffel and in the one for the secondary school in Langenwang (1930) together with Johann Zamecznik , in which the three won the 2nd prize.
He served in the First World War as a member of the war graves department of the kuk pioneers , was promoted to engineer - lieutenant in 1917 and was responsible for the decoration of military cemeteries . Also in 1917 he was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit with the Crown . On the side, he was still able to pursue his civilian profession in the joint architecture office.
In 1926 he was granted civil engineering license and became a member of the Vienna Chamber of Engineers and Architects.
