Hans Konwiarz

Hans Konwiarz (born December 15, 1919 in Breslau ; † November 18, 2018 in Kutenholz ) was a German architect .

Life

Hans Konwiarz was born as the son of the Wroclaw master builder Richard Konwiarz . From 1938 until his conscription for military service in 1940, studied Konwiarz at the State Academy of Fine and Applied Arts Wroclaw . After the war, he initially worked in various architectural offices before he went into business for himself as a freelance architect in Hamburg in 1952 .

In 1954 he began working as an architect for the Neue Heimat housing company . In the following decades he was involved in the planning of numerous construction projects for the Neue Heimat in northern Germany. In addition, he made plans for a cultural center for the Brazilian city ​​of Pindorama and was involved in the design of a hotel in al-Chubar , Saudi Arabia .

In 1966 Hans Konwiarz became known to the public with his basic design for the major Alster Center project . The realization envisaged the demolition of the entire Hamburg district of St. Georg . Massive public protests prevented the planned Alster Center from being realized.

After finishing his work for Neue Heimat in 1980, Konwiarz worked again as a freelance architect in Hamburg.
