Hans Walter (writer)

Hans Walter (born January 17, 1912 in Brügg / Canton of Bern , † May 24, 1992 in Buchillon / Canton of Vaud ) was a German-speaking Swiss writer , watercolorist and draftsman .

Life

Hans Walter grew up in Biel . He studied German and art history at the universities in Munich and Berlin . From 1950 he lived in seclusion with his partner, the sculptor and collagist Hans Gerber, as a freelance writer in Buchillon in Vaud . In addition to his literary work, which mainly consists of novels , short stories and essays , Hans Walter worked for various features in German-language newspapers and also created drawings and watercolors . Hans Walter received a. a. In 1943, 1950 and 1963 a prize from the Swiss Schiller Foundation, an honorary gift from the Canton of Zurich in 1953 and an honorary gift from the City of Zurich in 1973 .

The entire literary estate of Hans Walter is in the Swiss Literary Archives (SLA). These include manuscripts, typescripts, the (for the most part) unpublished diaries, unpublished novels (e.g. "Toter Phoeniz") and unpublished stories.
