Hans von Watzdorf

Hans Rudolf von Watzdorf (born February 27, 1857 in Dresden , † June 9, 1931 ibid) was a Saxon lieutenant general in the First World War .

Life

origin

Hans came from the originally Thuringian noble family von Watzdorf . He was the son of the royal Saxon lieutenant colonel Friedrich von Watzdorf (1814–1874) and his wife Laura Amalia, née kaufler (1832–1905).

Military career

Watzdorf went through a military career in the Saxon Army and received command of the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade No. 24 in Leipzig with his promotion to Major General on May 16, 1910 . On June 30, 1913, he was put up for disposition as lieutenant general .

When the First World War broke out, Watzdorf was re-used as a ZD officer and on September 10, 1914 was appointed commander of the newly formed 53rd Reserve Division (3rd Royal Saxon) . He led this after training on the Western Front in the Battle of Ypres . In addition to both classes of the Iron Cross , Watzdorf also received the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Heinrich on December 15, 1914 .

Due to his age, he was recalled on June 30, 1915 and Lieutenant General Max Leuthold succeeded him.

family

He married on September 25, 1888 in Hanover Louise Ebert (born December 14, 1867 in Lehe (Emsland) ; † April 24, 1949 in Dresden), the daughter of the Oberregierungsrat Adolf Ebert and Emilie Blume. The couple had two daughters, one was the Dresden art historian Erna von Watzdorf (1892–1976).
