Pröglhof studied at the Vienna Music Academy , his teacher was the state opera singer Hermann Gallos . In 1948 Pröglhöf won a singing competition in Scheveningen.

According to all sources, the singer is said to have become a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera in 1948 , but the archives there and old programs already list appearances from autumn 1945, for example the Imperial Commissioner in Puccini's Madama Butterfly on September 19, 1945. Pröglhöf sang a lot of small and some middle roles in an extremely large number of performances. He stood 308 times as steward of the Feldmarschallin im Rosenkavalier on the stage of the Vienna State Opera, 254 times as Sciaronne in Tosca and 223 times as Imperial Commissioner. His last performance is recorded in the Sciaronne's performance catalog on October 2, 1977.

Pröglhöf was engaged at the Salzburg Festival from 1950 to 1952, in a concert in 1950, in 1951 as the second craftsman in Bergs Wozzeck and in 1952 in the world premiere of Strauss'schen Liebe der Danae . In 1952 he was a guest in Wagner's Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In 1953 he made a guest appearance with the Vienna State Opera at the Opéra National de Paris . He was also on the opera stage in Rome.

In the concert hall he sang a number of sacred works, such as Bruckner's Mass in F minor (1950 at the Salzburg Festival), or in concert performances, such as Gluck's Iphigenie auf Tauris (1956 at the Wiener Musikverein ).
