Harber is a district of the municipality of Hohenhameln in the Peine district in Lower Saxony . It is located in the northwest of the municipality on the road to Haimar . Today the village has 466 inhabitants.
history
The oldest surviving document that Harber mentions dates from 1220.
The Protestant village church (St. Katharinenkirche) has a mighty Romanesque tower. The nave was rebuilt in neo-Gothic forms in the 19th century . The parish belongs to the Peine parish.
Harber was incorporated into the community of Hohenhameln on March 1, 1974. Before that, the place belonged to the Burgdorf district .
Place name
Old names of the place are in the 8./9. Century (12th century) Heriborea, (1174–1195) (12th / 13th century) Harber, after 1212 de Harberhe, 1220 Luhtbertus de hertbere, 1236 Lutbertus de Hertbere, 1239 (A.) Hertzbere and around 1241 Herbere.
It is clear that the basic word -ber is present. The place names of the district of Peine and other Lower Saxony place names (Böbber, Schwöbber, Haimar, Velber, Schwülper and others) have shown that behind them there is a word bearo "forest, grove", which is only attested in Old English. In the first part probably German "Hard mountain forest, wooded mountain", is also in the Haardthöhe and in the Harz Mountains. Harber near Soltau, perhaps most likely from “Hart-ber Bergwald”; very insecure as the tradition of the name leaves a lot to be desired.
coat of arms
The local coat of arms is divided horizontally in two. The lower half relates to the Counts of Dassel , who had free float in this area in the Middle Ages. The upper half refers to The Great Free , to which Harber belongs.
