geology

The hollow in the terrain south of Hohenhameln was very likely formed when the glaciers of the last Ice Age advanced as far as the low mountain ranges. This conclusion arises from the gravelly / sandy deposits that stretch over the entire ridge from Bierbergen via Hohenhameln and Clauen to Bründeln. In Bierbergen and Clauen these gravel deposits were mined until the 1930s.

history

The St. George's Church in Soßmar

The first mention of Soßmar can be found in a document dated March 11, 1146, in which the Soßmar monastery near Hohenhameln received 8 acres of arable land. Soßmar itself is possibly well over 1000 years old. There is evidence that the Corvey Monastery near Höxter on the Weser acquired ownership of a settlement called Sursia between the years 826 and 853. Only the following forms of name are documented: 1146 Sutherem , 1243 Sutterum inxta Hamelen , in the 14th century Sozerum , Sothzerum and Zocerem .

Soßmar was incorporated into the community of Hohenhameln on March 1, 1974.

Religions

The parish has been Evangelical Lutheran since 1542, as the council and citizens of Hildesheim committed themselves to Lutheran teaching on August 27 and the city of Hildesheim, as pledge holder, ensured that the Reformation was carried out in the city and office of Peine . Today it has 500 members and shares its pastor with the Adenstedt parish .
