Community structure

The municipality of Hohenhameln consists of the following districts:

history

The name Hohenhameln can probably be traced back to "Hoher Hagen ", which means "terrain enclosed with a high hedge".

On March 1, 1974, as part of the regional reform in Lower Saxony, the until then independent municipalities of Bierbergen, Bründeln, Clauen, Equord, Harber (until then in the district of Burgdorf ), Hohenhameln, Mehrum, Ohlum, Rötzum, Soßmar and Stedum (incl. Bekum settlement) combined to form the newly created community of Hohenhameln.

After the municipality of Bekum was merged with Stedum in the 1960s, their name disappeared from the political map for around 50 years. Since the territorial reform of the 1970s, both villages have formed the village of Stedum within the municipality of Hohenhameln. The village was only renamed Stedum-Bekum on January 1, 2016.
