Hardt is a district on the eastern edge of the Hardt forest area in the Herkenrath district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name Hardt was first mentioned in 1487 as a late medieval Roden name in tax, lease and tribute lists. The Hofsiedlung is recorded in the original cadastre as Auf der Harth . At least since the early modern period there were two neighboring farms in the village of Hardt. This results from the church bank regulation of 1630 "Order of those churches benches here zo Herckenrath" with the stipulation:
"... under the arch the 2 guiter zor Hart each have 1 place."
At the beginning of the 19th century, the original cadastre mentions two adjacent farmsteads, each of which had between three and five residential and farm buildings. The main parts of the old structure are still unchanged today. Etymologically , the settlement name Hardt can be traced back to the Old and Middle High German “hard” (= mountain forest / forest) and means in particular that it is an unhedged and unkempt forest with thorn bushes.
