Harmen van Bol'es signed in on April 26, 1713 The Hague a treaty to which it into the service I. Peters joined. In St. Petersburg, van Bol'es quickly achieved success thanks to the support of Domenico Trezzini . He made furniture for the imperial palaces and built domes , towers , drawbridges , locks , windmills and canals. In 1721 he rebuilt the Anitschkow Bridge . He was one of Nicolaus Friedrich Haebel's assistants . In the summer garden , van Bol'es created a system of fountains with underground water reservoirs. His weather vane (with the silhouette of Oryol ) on the top of the Admiralty (1719) became a symbol of St. Petersburg. In Mikhail Grigoryevich Semtsov's project of building the Simeon and Anna Church, van Bol'es built the spire (1731–1734). In 1737 he built the blue and red bridges over the Moika . In 1753 he built the large horse stable bridge over the Moika at the horse stable yard, for which he had already built the spire.

Van Bol'es was married twice in St. Petersburg and had at least 12 children. His eldest son Cornelis from his first marriage to Elisabeth Geldorp returned to Schiedam. The second son, Anthonij, became a builder at the Moscow court. The eldest son Cornelis the Younger from his second marriage to Catharina Potter followed his father.
