Harmon Jones

Harmon Clifford Jones (born June 3, 1911 in Regina , Saskatchewan , Canada , † July 10, 1972 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film editor and film director who was nominated for an Oscar for best editing .

Life

Jones began his career in the Hollywood film industry in 1944 as an editor at the film production company 20th Century Fox . His first film was the adventure romance at home in Indiana (Home in Indiana) by Henry Hathaway with Walter Brennan , Jeanne Crain and Charlotte Greenwood . Until 1950 he was responsible for the film editing of more than twenty productions.

At the 1948 Academy Awards , he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Editing for the literary film adaptation Tabu der Gerechten (Gentleman's Agreement, 1947), directed by Elia Kazan , in which Gregory Peck , Dorothy McGuire and John Garfield played the leading roles.

In 1951 he finished his work as a film editor and worked from then on as a director. After his directorial debut As Young as You Feel , a comedy film with Monty Woolley , Thelma Ritter and David Wayne , Harmon directed 35 other films by 1969, as well as mainly episodes for television series .

His son Robert C. Jones , born in 1937, was also active as an editor. The granddaughter Leslie Jones also followed this path.
