Harry Edwin Wood
Harry Edwin Wood (born February 3, 1881 in Manchester , England , † February 27, 1946 ) was a South African astronomer .
In 1906 he was appointed chief assistant of the Transvaal Meteorological Observatory , which soon began purchasing telescopes and became known as the Union Observatory . He served as director of this facility from 1928 to 1941, succeeding Robert Innes in this role . Wood was married, but he had no children.
From 1929 to 1930 he was President of the Astronomical Society of South Africa . Wood discovered some asteroids and in his honor he was named Asteroid (1660) Wood after him.
