Hartmut Eggert (born May 31, 1937 in Essen ) is a German literary scholar , reading researcher and former university professor .

Live and act

Hartmut Eggert studied German and geography at the University of Freiburg and at the Free University of Berlin . 1964/1965 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Florida . From 1965 to 1967 he was a trainee and assessor at the Free University Berlin, 1970, he was with a thesis on German historical novel to Dr. phil. PhD .

From 1969 to 1971 he worked as a research assistant , from 1972 to 1977 as assistant professor for literary didactics at the German seminar at the FU. There he initiated the research team "Eggert / Berg / Rutschky: Educational Processes in Secondary School Literature" in 1970. From 1971 to 1975 he also worked on the romantic theory project with Eberhard Lämmert.

In 1975 he qualified as a professor for modern German literature and didactics of German teaching .

From 1978 to 1980 he was a teacher at the school farm island Scharfenberg . In 1981 he became professor for modern German literature with a focus on literary socialization at the Institute for German and Dutch Philology at the Free University of Berlin . From 1999 to 2001 he was the managing director of the institute. He was visiting professor at Peking University (1983/1984 and 1987) and at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi (2004).

From 1992 to 2005 he was the coordinator of the German institute partnership of the MOE program of the DAAD for the Free University of Berlin, the Maria Curie Skłodowska University of Lublin and the Catholic University of Lublin John Paul II.

From 2004 to 2008 he co-founded the Center for German Studies at the University of Beijing. In 2001 he was the coordinator of the International Alfred Döblin Colloquium in Berlin. Lecture tours have taken him to Brazil , China , Poland , South Africa , Thailand and the United States .

In 2002 he retired .

His main research interests include German literature since the 18th century, in particular the theory of romance, literary socialization, the didactics of literary instruction and reading research.

  • 1985–2002: Chairman of the sponsoring association of the Literaturhaus Berlin
  • 1994–2002: Member of the German Studies Advisory Board of the DAAD
  • 1995–2004: Co-founder of the reading socialization focus of the German Research Foundation
  • 1998–2002: Member of the selection committee of the Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives

Awards

Hartmut Eggert received the Medal of Honor from the Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin in the mid-1990s and the Medal of Merit from the Catholic University of Lublin in 2002.

After his retirement he was made an honorary professor at the Maria Curie Skłodowska University. He is an honorary member of the Polish Association of Germanists.
