Hartmut Laufhütte

Hartmut Laufhütte (born January 2, 1937 in Wegberg ) is a German German studies scholar , literary scholar and professor emeritus.

Live and act

Laufhütte attended grammar school after elementary school, graduated from the City New Language School in Erkelenz and was accepted into the German National Academic Foundation . He studied German and Latin at the University of Cologne and the University of Kiel . After the first state examination in 1963 for teaching at secondary schools in Kiel, he received his doctorate there in 1964 . This was followed by traineeship for teaching at secondary schools at the Krefeld study seminar and at grammar schools in Rheydt and Mönchengladbach . He passed the second state examination in Krefeld in 1965 and held an assistant position in the German Medieval Studies department at the University of Cologne until 1967 .

Since 1967 he has been an assistant, since 1970 Academic Counselor , since 1971 Academic Senior Counselor in Modern German Literature at the University of Mannheim . There, after a two-year habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation, his habilitation took place in 1978, and he was appointed private lecturer . In 1980 he was appointed to the chair for modern German literary studies at the University of Passau , where he was, among other things, the leading liaison professor of the German National Academic Foundation. He retired as a university professor in 2002 .

From 2002 to 2018 Laufhütte was head of the research center " Early Modern Times " at the University of Passau. There, the Passau part of a large research and edition project on German literature of the 17th century, supported at three university locations, first by the German Research Foundation, then by other institutions, most recently by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation , was developed.

His main research interests are the fields of literary concept formation, genre theory and genre history, German literature from the 17th to the 20th century, and the edition of early modern texts. Laufhütte is editor or co-editor of numerous works, co-founder and co-editor (until 2003) of the book series “Mannheim Contributions to Linguistics and Literature Studies” and the edition “ Sigmund von Birken . Werke und Korrespondenz ”, co-editor (1995–2009) of the magazine“ Deutsche Bücher ”and editor (since 2000; as successor to Wolfgang Frühwald ) together with Alfred Doppler of the edition“ Adalbert Stifter . Works and Letters ”.

Laufhütte is married to the Germanist and historian Almut Laufhütte, b. Gnüg, and has two daughters.
