In the first part, "Headball", the reader enters into the action in a prologue when the foundation stone for a criminal offense is supposedly being laid on the Mittelstädter racecourse. The main part of the plot extends over a few days in the mid-summer town, from mid-week to Sunday. At the beginning, a car is pushed off the road and forced into a serious accident. The accident victim is the coach of FC Blauweiß Mittelstadt. News of the accident reached his club during a press conference. The sporting situation in the club seems tense. Two new players have been signed, who will be integrated into the team in a training camp immediately after the game coming this weekend. Author Heiko Lukas takes his readers to this soccer game in the stadium. There, just like Julia König, you will meet the title character Max "Hattrick" Hensmann for the first time, who got his nickname because he appears in three successive novels. In the exciting game, FC Blauweiß takes a 2-0 lead against Viktoria Kassel. The goalkeeper from Mittelstädter secured the 2-1 win after extra time by blocking a great chance for Kassel with his head. For this it is helpful to limit the length of the readings to a maximum of two to three chapters. A break of one to three weeks must be observed between the readings. This gives the group enough time to deal with the content. The partially detailed description of individual characters and locations, even if they are only marginally involved in the plot, unfolds its full effect.
The Drei90 football podcast established a special variant of this iterative reading method , through which the series of novels involuntarily gained greater popularity. The task of the reader was taken over by different people. Guest readers like Ronny Blaschke also enriched the discourse. The reading cycle was adjusted from initially weekly to a three-week interval. The reading began with the second volume and so, after completing volume three, the first volume could be encountered as a prequel . This increased the tension, as numerous open storylines were now opened up, but individual already forgotten details suggested a pleasurable second reading of the second volume. At first sight it seems surprising that the reading speed slows down once again, while the depth of the work is revealed layer by layer through this iteration .
In this way, the symbiosis of novel and lecture results in a complete work in which the controversy between the author and the lecturer is enriching. Lecturers and listeners alike are emotionally bound to the work in a special way.
