The main road C44 in north-east Namibia branches off the national road B8 north of Grootfontein and leads east via Luhebu to Tsumkwe south of the Khaudom National Park . Not far from the border with Botswana, it then bends south and leads via Naama to Gam .

The asphalting of the road was planned for 2019/20, but did not make sense until July 2020, as it is used by a maximum of 105 vehicles a day, an average of 45 vehicles. Instead, the road is to be re-paved for 270 kilometers between Grootfontein and Tsumkwe. The cost is given as 87 million Namibian dollars .
