Questionable year of construction

While Görgens and the Environmental Protection and Beautification Association consider the given year 1667 to be the year the building was built, the working group has doubts because the list of owners can only be traced back to around 1810. And Müller sums up that the actual age of the house is still unknown, despite the fact that the year "1667" is repeatedly mentioned.

History

Based on a map from 1810, it is certain that the house was built in 1809 and 1810. At that time, however, the left side building (today a wine shop on the market ) only existed in its rear section. In place of the elongated building on the right side of the courtyard , which had to give way to the marketplace development in January 1989, there were only two smaller buildings in 1810 . For the first known owner , a Theodor Rey , births of children can be recorded in the church archives from 1801 . Born Theodor Rey probably about 1781 and is allegedly 20-year married to 1800s. He ran the farm with 50  acres of land and also had a small haulage business with only one horse . In particular, he supplied the postman Wilhelm Lungstraß with building material from his gravel pit to repair the roads . Known by Theodor Rey continues his position as Assistant Secretary and opponent of the mayor Johann Hubert Rosellen . His possible dismissal he came through withdrawal before. From the private sphere, the marriage of his daughter Anna Maria Josepha Rey in 1833, whose mother is named Elisabeth Engels , is also worth mentioning .

In any case, in 1844 Theodor Rey sold the house to Peter Kleineick , baker in Ganspohl . He bequeathed the house to his son Wilhelm Kleineick Ackerer and his wife Mathilde Rey , nee Keisinger . They operated the house with its outbuildings as a farm, with cow and pig stalls in the right-hand part . On November 18, 1898, the property was finally sold to the Arndt family . The buyer of the house and building contractor Ludwig Arndt had 11 children, two of whom died early. He replaced the clay framework with stone framework and added the bay window. He also had two dormers on the street side removed. His son Ernst Arndt (1887–1976) took over the construction business and used the left part of the courtyard (today a wine shop), which had temporarily served as a horse stable , to operate a carpenter's workshop . By 1984, the stable buildings on the right-hand side with extensions offered space for 32 garages .

Haus Arndt was located on one of only four brook bridges in the city, to which two old trade routes ran. On the one hand it was the valley road and thus the former path coming from the Hucklenbruch , which led over the Richrather road to Richrath . This Iron Age path was called the Mouse Path . On the other hand, there was a route from the Cölln-Düsseldorffer middle station at Haus Wagner over the main street to Solingen and Elberfeld . About this second connection with one was in modern times stagecoaches operated postal service out.

Today the house is used gastronomically on three floors . The two upper floors serve as a restaurant . There is a small pub on the ground floor with German and Irish beer . There are also terraces in front of and behind the house in good weather . A special flair of the house unfolds at unplugged concerts of the styles Irish, Folk and Blues .
