House FitzAlan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FitzAlan house was an English noble family of Breton origin. It comes from Alain, who appeared in the service of the Bishop of Dol at the end of the 11th century . His grandson, Alan Fitz Flaad, went to England, where he was given land in Shropshire by the King . His sons William and Walter bear the name "Fitz Alan" (fils d'Alain, son of Alain) as a family name.

Williams descendants acquired the title of Earl of Arundel by marriage in the 13th century , which they inherited in the family until the end of the 16th century; the title is still held today by the Dukes of Norfolk . Walter went to Scotland and became the first hereditary High Steward of Scotland there , a title that was quickly adopted as a family name: his son Alan already called himself Stewart , his descendants ascended the Scottish throne in 1371 (see House Stewart and family list of House Stewart )
