The Heidküppel , in the Ebersburg district of Ebersberg in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda , is about 615 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Milseburger Kuppenrhön , part of the low mountain range Rhön . The north-eastern neighbor is the Ebersberg ( 689 m ) with which the Heidküppel forms an elongated ridge.

The Heidküppel rises in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park . Its summit is - viewed clockwise - 3.4 km east -south- east of Weyhers , 3.7 km west-southwest of Poppenhausen , 6.3 km west-northwest of Gersfeld , 1.7 km northwest of Altenfeld and 1.8 km north of Hettenhausen (both as the crow flies ). A little northeast of the summit region is the hamlet of Oberrod in the district of Ebersberg , to the south the landscape of the mountain slopes down into the valley of the Fulda .

The Heidküppel belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35), in the main unit Vorder- und Kuppenrhön (with land ridge) (353) and in the subunit Kuppenrhön (353.2) to the natural area Milseburger Kuppenrhön (353.21).
Mountain height
The Heidküppel is about 615 m high according to the top contour line that can be seen on topographic maps . About 200 m west-southwest of the summit you can find the altitude “600.6” on such maps.
Protected areas
The Heidküppel is located in the Hessian Rhön landscape protection area ( CDDA no. 378477; designated in 1967; 410.31 km² in size), in the Hessian Rhön nature park and in the Rhön biosphere reserve .
Infrastructure, traffic and hiking
The Heidküppel transmitter and a water tank are located on the Heidküppel summit region . A narrow road leads there. The mountain and its foothills are accessible through local hiking trails. For example, it can be reached via a circular path from the parking lot between Weyhers and Hettenhausen with an altitude difference of around 125 m.
The south side of the mountain falls significantly more steeply than the north side and offers a good view of the Fulda valley.
