Holy Moorish Martyrs in Bourheim

The Church of the Holy Moorish Martyrs is the Roman Catholic branch church of the Jülich district of Bourheim in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The building is entered under number 26 in the list of monuments of the city of Jülich .

history

A “chapel at Bourheim” was first mentioned in documents from today's neighboring parish of Kirchberg at the beginning of the 10th century. Bourheim belonged to the parish of St. Martinus Kirchberg until 1804. In that year Bourheim became an independent parish. At the end of the 12th century, a Romanesque church was built in Bourheim. Today only the four-story west tower is preserved. The remainder of the single-nave, baroque hall church dates from 1776. A southern sacristy was added in the 19th century . In 1929 the church was restored. During the Second World War , the west tower was partially destroyed by shelling. After the war, the tower was rebuilt with changes, so the organ gallery had to be reduced in size.

Until December 31, 2012 Bourheim was an independent parish . On January 1, 2013 the parish was merged with 13 other former parishes to form the parish of Heilig Geist Jülich.

Furnishing

In the interior there is an almost completely preserved baroque interior . These include the high altar and the two side altars from the 18th century. These side altars originally come from the Capuchin monastery in Aldenhoven . Furthermore, a baroque pulpit and confessional have been preserved. Herb Schiffer created the windows of the church in 1962.
