history

A church in Selgersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1255. There was probably a small church in Selgersdorf as early as the 8th or 9th century. The first stone church was built in the 13th century. This was replaced in the 18th century by a baroque hall church with a west tower and a choir closed on three sides . This church became too small around 1900 and so the current church was built elsewhere. The old hall church was demolished after 1920.

Today's church was built between 1913 and 1914 according to plans by the Düsseldorf architect Wilhelm Sültenfuß . Sültenfuß planned a three-aisled hall church in the neo-Gothic style with a five-bay nave and a choir closed on three sides, as well as a bell tower built in front of the nave . The church was badly damaged during World War II . All the vaults collapsed and were replaced by a wooden flat ceiling by 1958. In addition, the division between the central nave and side aisles has been missing since the war, so that the church is now an aisle church.

Until December 31, 2012 Selgersdorf was an independent parish. On January 1, 2013 the parish was merged with 13 other former parishes to form the parish of Heilig Geist Jülich.

Furnishing

The church has modern furnishings from the period between 1960 and 1995. Wilhelm Rupprecht created the windows of the church around 1970.

organ

The organ (Opus 726) is a work of the Bonn company Johannes Klais Orgelbau from 1929. The instrument was renovated in 1950 and its disposition slightly changed.
