Herb Schiffer

Herb Schiffer (* 1936 in Jülich ) is a German jewelry and ceramic designer, painter and glass artist .

Life

Schiffer studied painting and glass painting at the Cologne factory schools with Wilhelm Teuwen in 1957/1958 . He did an internship at the Oidtmann glass painting company in Linnich . From 1958 to 1959 Schiffer studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris . After studying landscape in Brittany and Normandy , he returned to Germany in 1960/61.

From 1961 he worked as a freelance painter. During this time he worked as an art teacher at the grammar school at Wirteltor Düren , as did Ulrich Rückriem . Schiffer lived and worked in Jülich, later in Barmen in Schloss Kellenberg . During this time Herb Schiffer received his first public contracts in the sacred field. In 1963 he received a grant from the Minister of Education of North Rhine-Westphalia for a six-month study visit to Italy . The Ministry of Culture bought pictures from him.

In 1966 the artist moved to Düren . From 1974 to 2001 he taught at the vocational college for design and technology in Aachen and at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences . From 1981 to 1989 study visit to Brazil with exhibitions in São Paulo , Salvador (Bahia) and Rio de Janeiro . In 1994 a study trip to the USA and an exhibition in Atlanta followed , and in 2000 he exhibited in New York .

From 2005 to 2008 Schiffer had a teaching position at the Bad Reichenhall Art Academy . This was followed by a teaching position at the Heimbach International Art Academy .

In 2011 Herb Schiffer received the Düren district art prize .

Schiffer lives on Binsfelder Strasse in Düren.
