Architecture and history

The building was created in 1904 by the architect Max Schneck . Schneck also built several other buildings in the area, including the house at Heiligegeiststrasse 1 . The client of the building at Heiligegeiststrasse 4 was the businessman Selmar Philippsborn . The neo-renaissance architecture of the building is based on the design of stately Renaissance buildings . The facade made of red sandstone is remarkable . It is designed in the Art Nouveau style, but cites stylistic elements from bygone times. Arcades are inserted on the ground floor . The house is dominated by its mighty polygonal tower marker. There is also a tail gable and a half-timbered bay. The half-timbered elements were used at the urging of the city building authority.

At least in the 1920s, the Wohlwert department store was located in the building .
