Peter Steiner's Theaterstadl , later Steiner's Theaterstadl , is a Bavarian folk theater whose plays are particularly designed for light entertainment and mostly set in the rural setting of Upper Bavaria. Since 2014 it has been called STEINERS THEATER - the Bavarian comedy .

The theater company became known nationwide through the television series of the same name, which was broadcast on RTL plus from 1992 .

history

Peter Steiner's Theaterstadl (barn or barn = barn) was founded in 1983 by Peter Steiner as a family business and opened in the hall of the restaurant "To friendship" in Munich in the Giesing district . Peter Steiner's daughter Gerda has been running the Theaterstadl since 1985.

In 1998 the head office of Peter Steiner's Theaterstadl in Munich-Giesing was closed due to the numerous tour commitments. Countless guest performances have led the Theaterstadl very successfully through Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

On December 22, 2008, Peter Steiner died of a heart attack in Munich at the age of 81. In spring 2010 Gerda Steiner announced that after the season was over and the DVD had been released, she would take a break with the Theaterstadl and then start over from 2012. Further tours followed with numerous guest stars, such as Hans-Jürgen Bäumler , Christiane Blumhoff and Christine Zierl .

The Theaterstadl on TV

Selected plays were broadcast on Sat.1 from 1989 , some of them under the umbrella brand Unser Kleines Theater .

From 1992, RTL plus continued broadcasting weekly under the title Peter Steiner's Theaterstadl . In addition, the regular ensemble was seen in sketches in the TV music program "Die Heimatmelodie", moderated by Gerda and Peter Steiner, and in the Bavarian sitcom Zum Stanglwirt .

In 1995 the program switched to the sister station Super RTL , where it ran with interruptions until the end of 2000, some pieces were repeated in 2005. Since 2002, episodes have been running continuously on Sky Deutschland on the home channel . In 2013, Sat.1 Gold included the program in its program and broadcast individual episodes on Tuesdays and, from 2014, on Sunday afternoons.

Since spring 2020, selected pieces in the program of Deutsches Musik Fernsehen will be broadcast on free TV for the first time.

In the meantime, all 105 pieces recorded for television broadcast have been released on DVD as series and complete boxes by the label Fernsehjuwelen.
