Heinrich Carl August Harms zum Spreckel (born April 29, 1874 in Dresden , † March 9, 1931 in Annaberg ) was a German doctor, genealogist and local history researcher from the Ore Mountains .

life and work

Harms attended high school and grammar school in the western Saxon city of Zwickau, where his father worked as a bank director. After completing his school education, he completed a medical degree at the universities in Jena , Tübingen , Munich and Kiel , which he completed with his doctorate in March 1899 . After working as a ship's doctor, he served in the Hussar Regiment No. 16 in Schleswig in the winter of 1900/1901, then again as a naval doctor in Wilhelmshaven . After changing positions in Wilhelmshaven, Dresden, Sonnenstein and Leipzig , among others , he was appointed as a district doctor and court doctor at the Zwickau district court in 1906 and finally on February 1, 1907 as a district and court doctor in the Erzgebirge mountain town of Annaberg. In addition, he was from 1910 naval staff surgeon in the reserve. On April 16, 1917 he was appointed to the royal medical council of Saxony .

Since April 1916, August Harms, the father of the Medical Council, and his direct descendants have been using the name Harms zum Spreckel in memory of the family's origins from the Spreckel farm near Drebber . Since December 1916, the family also had a family coat of arms.

In addition to his professional obligations, Harms zum Spreckel worked as a genealogist and local researcher. From 1911 he belonged to the Annaberger History Society and was made an honorary member by the latter on June 13, 1921. After retiring, he worked in the Annaberger Ratsarchiv, where he organized archival materials and created a map of the house loan books. His main publications include the edition of the house chronicle of the Annaberg coppersmith master Ludwig Kleinhempel from the 17th century and Christian Meltzer's historical description of St. Catharinenberg in Buchholz from the 18th century. He also published genealogical articles on the Erzgebirge hammer and mountain gentlemen's families Röhling, Siegel and Gottschald, as well as an annotated version of Wilhelm Steinbach's gender register of the von Elterlein family .
